In support of the mission of CTK, Stephen Ministers provide support to members of the congregation who are experiencing a personal crisis such as illness, loss of job, & loss of family members/loved ones. Distinctively Christian care and support is provided through confidential one-on-one lay relationships that bring the healing presence of Christ to our brothers and sisters who are hurting.

Stephen Ministry is a one-to-one ministry that provides Christian care and support (often referred to as the listening ministry). Stephen Ministers are matched with adult care receivers. Men are always paired with men and women are always paired with women. Stephen Ministry provides a very confidential relationship with a Stephen Minister who will listen and provide care and encouragement while God works inside the care receiver to bring rest to the burdened heart. Typically Stephen Ministers meet with their care receivers once a week for an hour. Stephen Ministers receive 50 hours of training prior to being assigned a care receiver.
During the summer, the Stephen Ministry Team will be reading and discussing Kenneth Haugk’s (founder of Stephen Ministry) book, Cancer, Now What?
How to get involved
Please contact one of the Stephen Leaders if you are interested in becoming a Stephen Minister or a Stephen Leader. If you are someone you know (a friend, relative, neighbor or coworker) would benefit from the care of a Stephen Minister, please contact Pastor Hank .
Past continuing education sessions have included speakers on: Dementia and Alzheimers, grieving, bullying, suicide, prayer, forgiveness and those Care Receivers who are hospitalized (including terminal illness and long term care).
If you or someone you know could benefit from the care of a Stephen Minister, please contact Pastor Hank or speak with any of the current Stephen Leaders: Keith Pennebaker, (703) 477-4214; Joni Holeman, (571) 577-1108.
If you are experiencing a life challenge for which you would like to have a Stephen Minister assigned, we can check with our Interchurch Group for a Stephen Minister outside of CTK. All caregiving relationships in Stephen Ministry are confidential.
