Welcome!

Sometimes our healing and help come to us from unexpected sources.
God sends us help, but not always from where we expect to receive it.
Jesus Christ came to us; God in a form we did not expect.
We must forego our prejudices of just how God must act
and pray for the openness to the movements of God among us. God is here!

February Cedars
All seniors (over 55) are invited to attend this monthly social which is held in the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church on the third Tuesday beginning at 11:00 am.  It is always a time of shared Christian fellowship, along with an interesting program and great food for a cost of only $5.00.  The February luncheon will be Tuesday, the 21st.  The guest entertainer will be Robert "Mitch" Mitchell, Music Director of the Great Falls United Methodist Church.  Our own Mary Davis is a regular attendee and would be glad to tell you more about these luncheons and encourage you to join her in attending.  Reservations are requested and can be made by calling the GFUMC office at 703-759-3705 by this Thursday (Feb. 16).

Volunteers are appreciated and needed to help setup, serve and cleanup.  We start decorating and setting the tables at 9:30 am, and are finished before 11:00 am when the guests arrive and then we begin serving the meal at noon following the program.  Our volunteers from CTK do the decorating and the setup.  We also help the ladies from GFUMC with serving the meal and cleaning up.  If you are able to help this month, please sign the Response form, or for more information call me at 703 471-6567 or e-mail AudreyWild@aol.com.  We have a wonderful group of volunteers who are a delight to work with but we always welcome newcomers to our team.

Senior High Ski Trip
We received highly positive feedback for the Ski Trip idea. We need to get final commitment and a $125 deposit to cover the cost of lodging since we won’t be able to recover that if you decide not to go. Money/Checks need to be dropped off to Deb at church. Please also reply (not reply all) to this email if you are certain you/your child wants to attend.

The senior high group will be leaving for Snowshoe, WV on the evening of Friday, March 2nd (exact time TBA) and returning midafternoon on Sunday, March 4th. Pending the reservations, we will be staying near Snowshoe Village less than 400 yards from the slopes. If you are new to skiing, don't worry; there are many different levels of skiers going. For those of you not interested in skiing, Snowshoe offers a wide variety of other entertainment including an indoor/outdoor heated pool, shopping in the central village, snow tubing, arcades etc. Contact Kevin Magley at mailto:kevin.magley@gmail.com.

Annual Confirmation Camp for 7th and 8th Grades
Registration materials are available for Confirmation Camp 2012. This will be our first year at Confirmation Camp from June 24 through June 29 where we will live the theme ‘Exodus.
The camp will be at Caroline Furnace Lutheran Camp and Retreat Center and the cost is $350.00. Registration forms are available in Deb Cantrell’s office’
“Confirmation Camp benefits youth by giving them time with other Lutheran youth their own age where they can have fun while learning and exploring their faith on one of the 145 ELCA outdoor ministries in the United States. It benefits clergy and other leaders who attend by giving them time with their youth outside of church as well as fellowship time with other clergy and leaders. It benefits congregations as their youth return from Confirmation Camp as changed people who have grown in their faith.” Taken from Caroline Furnace Website

ELCA National Gathering Fundraiser and Rummage Sale
The high school students who will be attending this year’s ELCA National Gathering will hold a Rummage Sale on Saturday, May 5th in Fellowship Hall. They ask the congregation to begin spring cleaning early and set aside any unwanted items. The Rummage Sale will feature gently used items in good condition. We will notify everyone when they can bring their items to the church. Please do not bring your items before this date, as space is limited. We welcome furniture pieces in good condition; but cannot accept mattresses, box springs, or tube televisions. However, flat-screen televisions in good working order would be most welcome. If you have any questions on donations, please call or email Deb Cantrell mailto:deb.cantrell@verizon.net.
